Current film and television work includes the film OPPENHEIMER STRATEGIES written and directed by 2 time Oscar nominee (BEAUFORT and FOOTNOTE) Joseph Cedar, MILES written and directed by Nathan Adloff and an episode of NBC’s THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA.
Last month’s concert of originals and covers on Concert Window (www.concertwindow.com) was fun. Next one is slated for the fall.
I continue to enjoy playing with my camera – glad that there is a camera in my phone when a photo opportunity presents itself!! I have Tumblr and Instagram photography pages….

Hard to believe it has been three years since I have posted. I guess I can’t call this a blog unless I actually post….
I have a couple of Facebook pages – my actor/director page ‘DC Anderson’
and my photographer page ‘DCAndersonPhotography’ and then there’s my personal page ‘DavidCameronAnderson’…. keeps me busy. The personal page gets my political rants and my addiction to videos of moments that depict loving relationships among families and friends and their pets.
DC Anderson actor/director is for news of theater and film and TV work.
DCAndersonPhotography is for all things photography. I LOVE photography. I also have a website www.lookslikeyouphotography.com which I will be changing soon to DCAndersonPhotography.com or net or whatever hasn’t been taken.
I am a vegetarian now – watched the documentary SPECIESISM. Fascinating. Gave me the final push.

Yesterday, October 24th, 2011, was the 110th anniversary of Anna Edson Taylor’s journey over the Niagra Fall in a barrel of her own design. She lived. Her story, is riveting! It is made even more so by composer/author Michael John LaChiusa with Director Jack Cummings III, choreographer Scott Rink, Musical Director Chris Fenwick and my fellow performers Mary Testa, Stanley Bahorek, Theresa McCarthy, Julia Murney, Andrew Samonsky and Talley Sessions in QUEEN OF THE MIST produced by the Transport Group at the Gym at the Judson (near Washington Square Park/NYU) in New York City. We began preview performances a week ago and will open officially on November 6!  I am in heaven 6 nights a week performing this for audiences! Visit www.transportgroup.org for tickets!

This April – I’ll be at the Broadhurst Theater as Frith (the butler) in the Broadway musical REBECCA, based on the Daphne Du Maurier book and Alfred Hitchcock film. It’s an open ended run – Hope it’s a HIT!!

I was writing to Barack Obama this morning – partially in reaction to a 9/11 tribute email that I received that put patriotism in the light, or should I say, shadow, of this notion that immediately after 9/11 we became ONE. One faith, one gender, one class, one color, one language… I realized how uncomfortable I am with that expression of what happened and with becoming ‘one’ being the litmus test for patriotism. I wrote to Obama to ask that he try to avoid telling us what the ‘American People’ want without first identifying the ‘American People’ for the diverse group that we are. differing colors, differing faiths/beliefs, different genders, differing abilities, differing ‘givens/history/inheritances’. I asked him to state clearly that Peace isn’t a circumstance. Peace is a decision I find it interesting that the political party that claims it wants to return responsibility to the people and out of the hands of the government at the same time gives ‘God’ responsibility for their thoughts and actions – The party that is attacked for being ‘God’-less is the one advocating for the poor, advocating for the land, advocating for equality, in other words, accepting personal responsibility for our responsiveness to one another… I love that S. Colbert said that it would be nice if self identified Christians who also vote Republican would just accept that they know that Jesus asked them to care for the poor, for the land, for EACH OTHER but that they JUST DON’T WANT TO.
Our response to the attack of 9/11/01 didn’t make us ‘one’…. we connected, in our diversity, to care for one another – much like the family fued that gets put aside when Grandpa passes – after the funeral, someone picks up where they left off and the other person, insanity restored, takes the challenge and the family is back where it left off, only thing is – they lived peace. they lived love. and the RESPONSIBILITY of that scared the living heck out of ’em (but secretly delighted them). When do we let our delight in being responsible out of the closet? when do we recognize that there are words that are borne of fear – words like ‘sacrifice’.

Beginning in mid-September I’ll begin work with a theater company that I have admired for years. Visit their site www.transportgroup.org and watch the video there. Hear Artistic Director Jack Cummings III discuss the theater company and their recent productions. The new show is Michael John LaChiusa’s QUEEN OF THE MIST about a woman in her 60’s who went over Niagra Falls in a barrel. I couldn’t be more honored to be a part of this premiere.

The year’s thrills so far – 

# 1 – 2 weeks at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport Maine. These are professional workshops taught by working pros at the top of their field. I had the great good fortune to be a resident actor – there for whatever project needs an actor – working with film directors, documentarians, still photographers, cinematographers – all  while enjoying the beauty of Maine and the fantastic food prepared by the chefs there. There’s also something freeing about the ‘doing’ at the Maine Media Workshops – everyone is creating with such fervor that the question  – can I? Do I have permission to create?  is nowhere to be found.  Was a joyful experience that I will carry with me always.

Highlight # 2 The film THE TREE OF LIFE  – I’ve seen it twice. There’s something about the bulk of Terrence Malick’s output as a director that has me fascinated. Aural and Visual mastery.

Highlight number #3 : Working in my sister’s garden and communing with her dog. Sometimes it’s hard to find my footing. A single man in New York City with no pets/children in a room crammed with everything I own, often unsure how I fit in to life’s equation. Not that it’s mine to know for certain. But, sometimes, I seek an idea of it. I have often propelled myself forward by seeing a hole that needed to be filled. Something that would require my talents and my sensibilities/sensitivities. New York is exhilirating, yet, a challenge to me whenever I let unsure footing be a reason for concern. Much easier to understand is a visit to either of my sisters where there’s dirt, water, sweat, plant life. A sweet animal who snuggles next to you when the thunder rolls.  A sister/friend with whom to harmonize.  And my place, at least for the moment, feels sure.  

Highlight number 3. I begin work on a new musical by Michael John LaChiusa soon. I am thrilled.

AND we are careening toward Christmas.

If you happen to be in New Jersey on the afternoon of Sunday August 21 – I’ll be at the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center at 3:00 p.m. For $ 10.00 you hear a concert of three artists of which I am one – we each perform for 25 minutes. should be fun.

Politically, I have been shocked by politicians who are comfortable exploiting/scaring the bejesus out of those of us haunted in childhood by the thought of  a ‘bogeyman’, who will ‘get you if you don’t do what I say’.  The truth is – we need to care for one another for the species to survive. The truth is we need to care for the planet for the species to survive. As any parent knows – care giving is not easy. It involves making hard choices. It means giving up comforts. It means delaying gratification or releasing the need for it. If I could only tell my parents how grateful I am to think that they put their love and energy into keeping a BABY alive – something completely dependent on them – for YEARS into childhood – into teenhood – into adulthood.  I have but an inkling of an idea of what they had to do for me to simply survive. We all have tough choices to make: a logger may have to move to another part of the country to continue her/his work in that field – a place where the health of the environment isn’t as threatened by their work. Or they have to choose another profession – HARD to do. The politician may have to actually lead her/his constituents by taking a stand, placing a vote for the future of the country, for the species, for the planet…and that vote may be an unpopular one with their monied supporters and they may lose their job. The ability to reason is not everyone’s birthright. There are some whose brains are less capable/developed for reasoning. It’s scientific fact. How does someone with the capacity to reason and the ability to recognize the lack of reasoning skills in another get done what they know must be done to derail politically charged quick fixes that may well be contrary to the survival of those they govern? How do we navigate around those politicians who prey on those who truthfully cannot or will not think for themselves, those politicians willing to tell  lies in order to maintain a position of power – no matter the consequence?  I’m stumped there.

I think I’ll take a nap. dream of Maine.

I apologize for the inactivity. Here’s an update:
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA ended it’s touring engagement in Los Angeles, California on October 31, 2010. I’m back in New York City. Loving the city – friends, the theater, the park, the availability of independent films within blocks… I am also enjoying auditioning for work. Nothing to report yet…it’s either nature’s way of telling me that I should have some time off or it’s nature’s way of telling me I’m lousy and got lucky one day back in 1989 and had the good sense to ‘ride it’. All I know for sure is this – THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA was a delightful way to spend the greater part of 21 years!!. I had the same ‘bosses’ for almost long enough to get a gold watch!! I could never have imagined that when I dreamed the dream of the life of an actor. I could also never have imagined that everyone from Cameron Mackintosh to Hal Prince to Peter, and Kristen and Denny and David etc would be so wonderfully committed to a show and to all involved. A dream job. People would ask me ‘how do you keep it fresh’ or, in the case of a recent director for whom I auditioned, ‘It HAD to get boring, didn’t it??’ I responded to him honestly, ‘No. I have learned to enter the world of the play with the desire to ‘co-create’ with everyone whose work wound up on the page and everyone in the building in the telling of PHANTOM’s remarkable story. I learned how to do that and revel in it.

Yikes it’s Hot! It’s a busy summer – touring continues – hopefully we’ll be going to some cooler climes soon!

Hi –  I continue to travel the US with THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.  Currently, we’re in the Midwest where we’re doing great business and enjoying Spring!   I had a blast on vacation in New York City early this month – spent some time with friends and saw GREAT theater!  FELA  is amazing – saw it TWICE!!  RACE was wonderful as was A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE, NEXT TO NORMAL, BILLY ELLIOT, GOD OF CARNAGE … what a treat!!

My new CD is CLOSE COMPANIONS –  I was incredibly busy with IN MY ROOM (www.inmyroomontheweb.com) when it was released and am only now able to take the time to promote it as I should have a few months back!  I am incredibly proud of it.

I saw a frightening editorial by Michael Medved accusing the press of putting too much emphasis on Rand Paul’s equally-as-frightening statements regarding returning the right to discriminate on the basis of race, sexual orientation, physical ability, religious affiliation to establishments that are privately owned. Michael indicated that he thought problems arising from racism are nothing we, currently, should concern ourselves with… sadly unaware of the effects of racism, sexism, ageism, bigotry in this country. I, of course, wrote him and expressed my dismay, quoting Arthur Miller ‘We make laws in this country to make us better as a people than we know ourselves to be as individuals’ .  I love that quote and repeat it often.
